…let’s see how you can make it this simple.
I could list a whole lot of silly & smart comments about time. But since time is of the essence, I’d rather keep it short & sweet – now listen carefully, because this is of utmost importance:
There’s no such thing as “time-poor”!
I’m not going to waste your time explaining why I state this to be true, let alone will I argue the point with you. I am just going to give you a very clear idea of how you can claim some valuable time back – not just for your business, but also for some lifestyle-choices. Lifestyle is in the top 3 reasons why people start their own Salon in the first place!
3 lists is all it takes:
List all the things that cost you a lot of time.
List all the things that waste a lot of your time.
List all the things you would love to do, but “don’t have time for”.
Before you get into details on those lists, make sure you work out your hourly rate!! (Here’s the fineprint: This is really important – running your own Salon, you’re not going to get paid the same amount for each task and each hour you spend working in and on your business. So work out how much you need and want to earn to make having your own Salon worth-while & get paid accordingly!)
Now, this is what you do with those lists:
Things that cost you a lot of time
Go through each item on your list & see if you could either systematise or outsource it. (NB: Almost every item on your list that will generate you less than your hourly rate should fall into this category!)
You wouldn’t believe how much time you can save by creating systems in your Salon! The best side-effect are some major benefits for your business: Your clients will get the same experience every time they come into your Salon – no matter who serves them!
Things that waste you a lot of time
Please check the priorities on those items very (!) thoroughly. Measure – even just for a week or a day – how much time you actually waste with each of them. Then find triggers on how to overcome & get away from them! A good way is to replace them with something very productive.
There are things we consider as very useful, but if they are on your “time-waster-list”, it is a strong indicator that either somebody else could do it or you could create a system to do it in a shorter time-frame (or even replace it!).
See which tasks could be taken on by a VA! Virtual Assistants are trained in various tasks that could save you a whole lot of time and money! (remember: if the task can be outsourced for way less than your hourly rate, then “Just do it”!!) This could be: accounting, answering phone calls, bookings, facebook ads, marketing, etc. Some of these might need to be eliminated all together.
Then there are those not so useful things. Have set times per day (watch & limit those time slots!!) where you check your emails, reply to facebook, watch TV shows, play those online games, make phone calls, …
Things you’d love to do
Finally – my favourite part!! Please slot them into your diary.
That’s it! Yup, just slot them in. That’s how simple it is. I went from “I don’t have time to read” to having 2 slots per week (3 hours each!!) where I just read. “How???” I hear you ask? By doing just those 2 simple steps above. Making those lists & checking the priorities.
There’s no such thing as “time-poor”. We just need to check our priorities more often. Structure is of the essence, so we can allow for flexibility!
